Yes, Polock Johnny was really Polish. Polock Johnnys has been around since 1921; it's funny the name hasn't seemed to bother anyone until now.

That's a long time to figure out the insult.

C-H-I-N-K's's should have kept their name.

Everyone I know that has eaten there and continues to do so calls it C-H-I-N-K's because that's the name of the restaurant.
They caved due to pressure from those that never have eaten at C-H-I-N-K's.

Instead of changing the name to Joe's the owner should have hired some hot looking women and dropped the "" N "" from C-H-I-N-K's' and made it Chik's if he was going to change the name.

See what happens when you bow to the PC crowd? You decimate your original customer base and find yourself alone.
Where's the group of PC idiot's now that he needs business?

Sad fate for a Philly institution.

People really need to get over it this silly culture war stuff and enjoy some good steaks made by a guy who's devoted his life to making them.

LOL, I think there was a lot more to it then that. Next time I run into Councilmen David Oh, I will ask him. But I agree, changing the name was un-warrented.

White lefties did.

You're insinuating that it took the Chinese community 60 years to find it offensive.

THAT'S offensive.
Well, kudos to "white lefties" for having the intelligence to recognize something that was offensive to a segment of the community and the courage to remove it and weather the unwarranted criticism for doing the right thing.

Based upon the majority of the posts, the consensus seems to be that a number of whites have gotten their panties all in a bunch, because they are finding out that the bigotry and ignorance towards non-whites that they have been raised in and around, is no longer cool and acceptable.

Welcome to the 21st century. Keep moving forward.

nice overreach though.
Things are not always as they "seem".

First, it's 2013, not 1913, there is no monolithic "black community" that represents the thoughts and feelings of all blacks. This is a stale and stagnant way of thinking that keeps us segregated human beings and breeds ignorance, resentment, mistrust, fear, and eventually, hatred. This perception needs to change.

Second, there are plenty of black people in the community who don't find it "okay" to use that word and they do not refer to other balck people by using that word. However, blacks, just like any other group, are not monolithic and as such, hold differing opinions regarding the use of the word.

If you ask a dozen black people, I guarantee you will find this to be true.
