For Mexican try: La Lupe near the Italian Market or Taqueria Riendo in Northern Liberties. For more upscale, Las Cazuelas in NoLibs or Xochitl in Headhouse Square.

Definitely not Gino's or Pats. They are the worse, only good if you are drunk at 2:00 a.m. Jim's on South Street is better or Tony Lukes on Oregon Avenue.

Mexican- Upscale I'll add Tequilas which is on 16th + Locust I believe. Much more casual the Mexican Post has a couple of center city locations-2nd + Chestnut and 15th+ Cherry I believe.

Cheesesteaks- I agree with Newmarlig. Pats + Genos are absolutely terrible.Tourist traps that make horrible cheesesteaks, avoid as if your life depended on it. Jims is much better or better yet go into one of the local pizza shops and order a cheesesteak. that might be your best bet.

I was thinking that when I have bought cheesesteaks in the past (I hardly ever eat them these days), it was usually just from food trucks (which can be wildly hit or miss), or yeah, from local pizzerias.
