The great wave of Italian immigration is long over. And when you get into the 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation, immigrant communities just tend to start to drift and fall apart. It's the same story with basically every Italian American community in the United States.

This is exactly what I was going to post. You'll see this phenomenon in large immigrant populations in all cities. For instance, the Italian-Canadian and Indo-Canadian populations in Toronto are becoming more and more dispersed over the years.

How many Irish-Americans do you meet who are culturally Irish? Immigrant populations assimilate into the greater culture of their country through the passage of generations. You wouldn't be shocked to say that an Irish-American isn't grouped along culturally in a sub-section named Little Dublin, or something or other, and the same can be said for the Italian-Americans.

They've by and large suburbanized, just like Philly's other white ethnic groups.

Technically...decimation means 10% of a group gets executed.
I guess that's a little bit like moving to the suburbs?

100 years ago, people thought the same exact thing with the Germans and English. They thought the huge wave of Italian and Irish immigrants would ruin the city.
