Hi all,

In a few weeks I will be moving from a studio apartment in a high-rise in South Jersey to a 1-BR apartment in a mid-rise building in the Logan Square area. I live alone and tend to move a lot, so I don't have much furniture, and what I do have is on the smaller side and in many cases can be disassembled. That said, there are few items that I can't carry on my own, and I don't want to impose on anyone right now to ask for help. So, I'm probably looking into using professional movers. I'm also up for the pack-your-own cube approach, though I would again need help moving those few clumsier items into the cube.

I should additionally mention that both buildings have freight elevators that can be reserved, that the South Jersey building has a very large parking lot, and that at the Philly building I will have a reserved parking spot in a small, covered lot.

So, I was hoping to request your collective thoughts on what moving services might be best to try. I realize that everything will be expensive, but it is worth the investment if I know that I am working with a reliable group.

What we did is we loaded a uhaul before the 1st and slept with just the bed and then loaded the bed in the morning. Then we met one mover guy in philly to help unload quickly the next day. The whole move cost $200.

I'm not sure if a similar route might be possible for you, where you have just one helper during the load and another for the unload because some people we called about doing the whole thing wanted over $1.5k I think.

Great, thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll look into both of them.

Try to move in before 10am. I don't know exactly when the meter maids come out but I know they are very lenient in the early morning on the 1st. You will see a lot of trucks parked illegally during this time.
