Planning a trip to Philadelphia this fall - hotel recs? (sale, 2013)

I'm planning a road trip this fall, part of which includes couple days exploring Philadelphia. We're trying to keep things to a reasonable budget. Can anyone recommend places near or nearish the center city area that aren't too expensive but are still acceptably nice? Or places to definitely avoid? For the record, two adult travellers who would prefer quieter evenings (ie, screaming kids, all night partiers, etc).

The least expensive quality hotels are the budget chains like Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn at the airport. This area can be as close as 15 minutes to downtown. If you actually drive downtown then figure another 25 or 30 dollars to park for the day. There is limited on street parking at meters in the museum district. Bring a couple of rolls of quarters.

I don't know what your budget is (reasonable means different things to different folks), but we're going over next month and staying at the Alexander Inn.

I've stayed at the Alexander several times and have always been impressed with the service, food, and rooms. I was initially a bit put off when my wife said she booked us into a "boutique hotel" ("boutique" anything makes my eyes roll). But I found the staff friendly (but not annoyingly so) and informative, and good value for the $ (can't recall what we paid in 2008, but it seemed reasonable, and it was significantly less than the larger hotels). The location is great - walkable to pretty much anywhere in Center City. You could probably find something less expensive at the airport like one of the earlier posters said, but considering transportation (SEPTA, cab, parking) costs, paying what might be a bit more for the Alexander is well worth it. Step outside the hotel at the airport and you have a trip to Center City awaiting you. Step outside at the Alexander and you're a short walk to everything.

do not stay at the airport. its not a nice area and there can be problems with theft. its cheap down there because its less desirable.anywhere in cc is good. i beleive the comfort inn on delaware ave has free parking.if toure planning to be here on a weekend the garage at 15&vine has cheap parking and is near the sheraton.

I would recommend staying in center city itself, which is where you are going to spend all of your time. If you go onto hotwire, you can probably get a 3 star or higher hotel in center city/old city for close to $100 a night in the fall.

Yes and I have had people book on priceline or hotwire for as little as 90 for a 4 star - though those delas are generally more last minute
