I was planning to visit Philadelphia for a few weeks. Do I need a car to get around, or will public transportation be enough? I plan to stay near City Hall.

Not really. Parking is expensive and you can use public transportation easily. If you want to go somewhere not easily accessible by bus or train, just rent a car for the day.

No, you do not need a car. Everything worth seeing is accessable by either walking or public transportation.

What do you plan to do while you're here?

Having a car in Philly is expensive. Even the hotels charge per day for parking - it's inconvenient and you can't use the danged thing anyway. Plan on public transportation - or a cab if you need to. Even that will be less expensive than trying to take your car everywhere.

It depends a bit on what you want to do. There are places that are easier to access via car. It's absolutely not required and it can be expensive, but sometimes it's nice.

You can always rent a car for the day during your visit if you want to leave the city.

When we drive there (from Ohio), the car usually goes in the parking garage and stays there until we leave. We usually stay in city center and it's very convenient to get around. Philly is a great walking city. Absolutely.
