How much can you actually pay for rent? As for pizza, have you tried NYPD on 11th Street, between Walnut and Sansom (great white pizza with sliced tomatoes and fresh garlic, or Gusto's 240 S 22nd St. (between Latimer St & Rittenhouse Square) (excellent portobello mushroom pizza), or Marra's (1734 E Passyunk Ave) or Tacconelli's (in Port Richmond -you have to call (at least on weekends) to reserve your dough). Those are just a few off the top of my head.

Cough...wait a minute, he's been to Philly & did'nt like the pizza? Okay "fair" was it at one spot or more than one? If it's the latter then you're probably outta luck.

As far as places to live for you & your girl, I'd highly recomend West Philly....As a matter of fact 52ND & Market comes to mind,uh huh, great area, young, old, hip, and.................Quite ADVENTUREOUS!!!

I think you & you girl should take a trip down there....On the el, get off & walk around, enjoy the sites and.....sounds.

You don't have to thank me this ones a freebie.

Philadelphia is not known for having the best Pizza. I would be offended if he said that the cheesesteaks sucks. Coolidge Ave., I am assuming that you are from NY which is a place known for having great pizza. But if you move to Philly, it's all about the cheesesteaks. I have heard great things about Newmarlig recommendations and Taconellis' is really great. I am assuming that you can afford a really nice apartment so I suggest Old City, Rittenhouse or Center City area only b/c you seem like a New Yorker and you may like being close to the nightlife and the sub.
In Philadelphia, we have buses, trolleys subways, and the regional rail line. If you don't like the Center City lifestyle, you can live in other areas in the city or surrounding burbs with convenient access to transportation.

To be honest, I'm not sure how seriously to take your (the OP's) post since your comments are a bit sarcastic if not contradictory. But what the heck, I'll bite.

Center City (our downtown) is probably your best bet to find a city neighborhood with apartment buildings with balconies and a pool. (Maybe in the Chestnut Hill area as well but don't quote me.) You can probably walk to work if your employer is downtown but otherwise you'can take your pick in terms of transit to go elsewhere. (See septa.org.)

If you feel you "only" make $140,000 a year, you must be from NYC, coastal California... or maybe a neighbor of mine in the DC metro. Assuming your collective salary will stay the same, you'll be pleasantly surprised how far your dollars will go. Depending on your priorities, you could probably afford a 2 or 3B in all but the most exclusive apartment buildings.

I guess I'm either easy to please or I don't "know any better" but as a Philly native I've always been content with the pizza selection there. That said, it's rare to find another place that makes a decent cheesesteak.

Gigibell214... you put it kinder and gentler than me.

I will see you all down by the pool next to the train station for pizza later.
I knew that one was a clunker the minute I read it.

I remember living in Maryland for a brief period of time. I use to drive around and see signs that stated "Philly-style cheesesteaks". Although it caught my attention, I had no desire to eat one b/c I knew, or assumed I should say, that It wouldn't taste like an authentic Philly cheesteak. I missed being home so much that I took the bait and regreted it completely. No Amoroso rolls?

I am not bashing Maryland b/c I have seen signs in NY and even California stating to have Philly-style cheesteaks and hoagies. I guess the point I am trying to make is, and I must add that it is difficult for me to make this point, Maybe, and this is a strong "MAYBE" someone in another state can make a pretty, OK (emphasis on "OK") cheeseteak. Ok really, someone would honestly have to make me a believer but I guess it is possible.

If I want a good deep-dish pizza, then I will go to Chicago. If I want good "Chowda", I will go to Maine or Boston. I wouldn't go to Chicago, eat a cheesteak and talk bad about it on the Chicago city forum. We have good pizza here but we are not know for having good pizza so it doesn't really bother me.

So, if you come to Philly Coolidge ave., go to 4th and South to Jims steaks, and have a Philly cheesteak, then go to 4315 N. 3rd Street in South Philly to the Philadelphia Soft Pretzel Inc. and get a nice warm soft-pretzel. Then go to Isgros on 1009 Christian Street and get a really great Cannoli (cheese cannoli is my fav). Then end the nice warm summer day with a really cool water ice from Rita's, Morrone's, John's. If any one else has any reccomendations please add them.
If you try any of these places out, come back and let us know what you think

LOL!!! That's why I posted the way that I did, I was born & raised in West Philly & used to love 52nd st back in the day, but now I hear it's a whole different world over there.

Even being from NYC he still doesn't have a right to come on the way he did.
I've lived in LA for the past 11 years & trust me there are VERY FEW good pizza parlors, or cheese steak places in the entire metro areas.

But the it's straight up nasty remarks & the "Well ah Duh...We only make about 140 a year statement required a certain type of response.

But if ya' take a look at some of his other post I think you'll see a cretain pattern that'll make ya' go hmmmm.

Why rent when you can purchase a home for 100k and pay less in mortgage than rent?
