Hello,

My husband is from Cairo and a year ago I dragged the poor guy from one of the biggest cities in the world to Tucson AZ while I finished up college. Now Im almost finished and Im definitely seeing that he (we) need to move to a bigger city.

I too would appreciate going someplace more metropolitan than Tucson but at the same time Im from Rochester, NY and NYC scares me. I want a place to raise kids but still diverse, preferably with a decent Muslim presence. Also, having a good job market that would cater to people with overseas and bilingual skills would be a plus.

So tell me about your city! Thank you.

OK, what can I say about Philadelphia to lure you in? I relocated here from Massachusetts over 20 years ago. I fell in love with a city that reminded me of Boston without the outrageous prices of real estate and the impossible streets to navigate. Call me simple but I appreciate that William Penn built the city on a grid with numbered streets running East-West and 'tree' street names running North-South.

Philly has a lot going for it. The city administration is about to change (that's another story) and there are tax incentives for buying city property. Many retirees are buying in renovated high rise condos to be closer to the fun.

I personally live in the area just north of Philadelphia so I have easy access to Newark's Liberty Airport or Philadelphia International Airport for my transatlantic flights. I also have the benefit of being in NYC in 1 hour and 15 min by train from Trenton.

Our higher education is terrific too. I came with a burning urge to pursue an advanced degree and made it happen at Drexel University but there are many choices there as well. We have some great hospitals as well in the city: Children’s Hospital (CHOP), University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hosp, Hahnemann University Hospital, etc.

I am honestly not familiar with how extensive the Muslim community is but I know we have mosque in my small town (I didn't have that in Massachusetts).

So that's my story. Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

NYC scares me
awww, it aint that bad.

well, Philly has a big city feel and a smaller community feel at the same time. its got some great neighborhoods, excellent restaurants. its also more family friendly than NYC. i would suggest living in and around center city. especially if your husband misses the big city feel. and like ajscherer stated, its only an hour and a half away from the biggest city in the world and shore points (like Atlantic City). also 2 + hours away from DC.
