The Boy is the Box case was already mentioned but that story really interested me for some reason

Dolores Della Penna

Another one that sticks in my memory is the murder and rape that happened in one of the fountains at the Art Museum. Kevin Wolfe I think his name was.

Police officer Daniel Faulkner 1981. Murdered by Mumia Abu Jamal, who became a "hero" to those who respect cop-killers, and a darling of Hollywood celebs.

Baby Zachary Dacri 1989. Sick twisted mother chopped up her 7 week old baby and claimed he'd been kidnapped.

Teenager Eddie Polec 1994. He was being beaten to death while several people called 911, and the 911 operators' deplorable rudeness and incompetence resulted in Eddie death.

Marie Noe was the killer of 8 of her 10 children while they were still infants ages from newborn to 14 months .The other 2 did not survive but she did not murder them ( one was still born and the other lived only 6 hours after birth) .The infant murders took place between 1949 and 1967. IMHO she got off extremely easy getting probation with I believe 5 years of confinement in her home .She had everyone believing including her long suffering husband that after each death that the baby died of natural causes and she was under some kind of bad curse. She now lives alone in a rundown row home on a impoverished block in the tough Fairhill neighborhood near the Kensington border. Her husband died not that long ago and she is in failing health

I know it's already been mentioned, but Dolores Della Penna. My great-aunt and uncle were/are her parents. My aunt is still alive, but her father died years ago. Obviously, I never met Dolores as I was born in 1974, but she was my dad's first cousin. Very sad.

A movie about Kermit Gosnell is coming out soon. Supposedly they actually interview him and he actually tries to defend what he did... ugh..

The older posters here might recall the Jack Lopinson "slay-for-pay" case (1964), or Joseph Kallinger "The Shoemaker" (1974).

Kallinger died in the mental hospital in Cresson in 1996; Lopinson and hired killer Frank "Birdman" Phelan (a bad scene from out of Damon Runyon -- "I take pills so that I don't kill people.") -- escaped execution when the death penalty was invalidated in the early Seventies. Lopinson died in Graterford Prison on 2002, but I was unable to learn whatever happened to Phelan.
