Connecticut has been getting tough with the high rise of costs for the lower class people. I've recently taken a trip to downtown Philly and enjoyed the city life, but what would it be like to live there and where would one would look for a good price for a one bedroom apartment? I don't drive and would rely in the SEPTA system, as well I'm a young white female in my late 20s.

Stakes are getting high here and I'm growing tired of how uptight and snoody people are in Conneticut. People seem down to earth and people were fairy nice to me when I was there! sure I'm not gorgeous, but people in fairfield county I can't deal with and want a place that's affordable with a multicultural environment, easier to make friends.

Is Philly my ticket for a better city living? Much thanks!

PS My Budget for a one bedroom would be 600

To elaborate... there are lots of free concerts, farmers markets, cheap open mic's, great bars and restaurants, all kinds of shows, all kinds of sports. People in the streets and underground concourse who play music etc for tips. Lots of meetups of all interests. Subway / PT urban type lifestyle. People of all nationalities wandering around speaking their native language to each other. A formal china town. Authentic food of all nationalities.

There are lots of different neighborhoods so it's up to you what you want. However 600 for a one bedroom might be possible if you are just renting a room. Otherwise you might want to look at studios and maybe going up to 700 / 800.

I'd recommend a 700 / 800 studio in center city for a year then decide what you want from there.

One of the best things about Philadelphia is the excellent public transportation system. You can get anywhere in the city or suburbs very easily by public transit (bus, subway, commuter rail, trolley), and even to NYC and Atlantic City, NJ. Keeping that in mind, it should not be an issue to locate a little further out from Center City so that you can maintain your housing budget.

I grew up in Wilton, CT my entire life so I know exactly what you are referring to in regards to the attitude of people from Fairfield County. Philly is a great city and will have everything that you are looking for, also I would join a few Meetup groups for things that interest you (they have a meetup for pretty much any social activity that you are looking for). This will help in the process of meeting new people and establishing new relationships, good luck.
