Though it's outside the city, Marcus Hook definitely qualifies.

Actually the word "Ghetto" is Italian.

In medieval Europe, Jews were forcably segregated from the general population and often required to live in overcrowded walled-in enclosures. I believe the precise origin refers to the Jewish quarter of Venice which was a fortified foundry where the Jews lived.

No. Fishtown was never a ghetto, it was mostly blue collar people paying their bills. Sure, you could find a fight (last person I punched in the face was in Fishtown) and it had it's drugs and some (some)white trash, but the neighborhood wasn't overrun with delapidated houses, violent crime and open air drug markets.
The last white ghetto was probably parts of Kensington twenty-something yeras ago.

A lot of black Philadelphians like to think of the River Wards (Fishtown, Port Richmond, Bridesburg) as "white ghettos," but they're mistaken in that belief.

I would not put fishtown in the same sentence as Bridesburg or PR. FT is not in the same category as the other two..

Perhaps you should check out home values in Fishtown and see how they compare to Bridesburg or Port Richmond. Fishtown is rapidly becoming Yuppie Ville.
