Hi Everyone,

If my husband works in the hospital (IT) in Norristown, can you recommend a high end community for a family?

1) My husband grew up in a cute neighborhood in CA that bumped up against a rough neighborhood. For that reason he's Mr. Super Safety. So I'm hoping to find a community and/or suburb that is as safe as possible.

2) We try to avoid cookie cutter neighborhoods.

3) We have two 10 year olds but we homeschool so schools aren't a worry.

4) My husband is fine with a 20 to 30 min. commute.

5) We have a dog who is like a third child. We'd love to find safe dog parks or river/green areas where we can walk.

6) Our kids love swimming pools -- indoor and out.

7) We plan on renting and can pay up to $2400 a month for rent.

8) Not to sound like a total snob but we'd love to be close(ish) to a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's if you have them.

Last question: Given how safety conscious my husband is, would Norristown location work for him for work? He would literally just drive to work, eat at his desk and drive home. No shopping or anything.

Thank you for any and all help,

Alley

Mercy Suburban or Norristown State Hospital?

Mercy Suburban is on the outskirts of Norristown in a suburban like setting. Norristown State is closer to town and might find it a bit grittier. Even that Norristown isn't that bad of a city from a crime standpoint. The surrounding suburban areas has virtually no crime so I really wouldn't worry about crime, its really not much of a factor at that location. That's kind of Gods' Country out there.

The Valley Forge area is very nice area. Home to Valley Forge National Park.

You have Audobon,Jeffersonville,Eagleville,Skippack,Worcest er. Blue Bell,Gwynedd Valley,Springhouse,North Wales.

As far as shopping? The close by hubs to Norristown would be Plymouth Meeting and King of Prussia. You will find everything you need between the 2. Along with Whole Foods, Trader Joes there is a chain here called Wegmans that puts them both to shame imo.

Good luck.

If I understand correctly the building he'd be working in would be in Norristown, but the main hospital is in Philedelphia.

Thank you for this info. I think it's more expensive to live there than I thought. We may need to up that rent price!

Thanks,

Alley

I have one and only one answer: The Woodlands, which is next to (part of) Horsham, found along 276 just a few miles east of Norristown.

Then he'll be working at Einstein, nee Montgomery Hospital, in East Norriton?

You could live almost anywhere. King of Prussia, Plymouth Meeting, East or West Norriton, Whitemarsh and Whitpain townships are closest to shopping, and there are boatloads of parks and trails nearby.

Don't worry about safety. Contrary to popular belief, Norristown is not full of wild-eyed carjackers toting Saturday Night Specials.

If you're not a fan of cookie cutter neighborhoods, you're either going to need to look along the Main Line (Lower Merion, Radnor, Western Haverford, Tredyffrin) or the northern inner suburbs (Springfield, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, parts of Abington). Otherwise, I'd say focus on the nicer, more lively boroughs, like Ambler or Collegeville. Conshohocken could work too, as could the parts of Havertown that have a walkable, Main Street feel.
