I'm confused as to whether he's talking about the Philly restaurant renaissance that started 30 years ago, or if he's saying there's some new thing?
I'm guessing it's the former, and that the author hasn't been paying much attention to the world.

Good press in any case.

One of the reasons I like Philly ... it's a great restaurant town!

The variety is endless. How many places in the US can you get Malaysian, Jamaican, Burmese, Senegalese, Ethiopian, Israeli, Laotian, Peruvian cuisines?

I only wish the Thai restaurants were better ... they usually don't rise above mediocre. Also, very very few late night options for a late supper after midnight in Center City (there's an IHOP on Walnut that stays open 'til 2 AM).

the author is or was a food writer in philly. his audience in this case is in britain so its quite likely they dont know whats going on. still, the food scene has vastly improved in the last 20 years

There are...........but they're usually 20 miles apart and 45-90 minutes of traffic no matter where we reside.
