Hello All,

I am moving to Philadelphia on July 4th! I am so excited. I will have a guy friend with me helping, and I was wondering if you can give me some suggestions on things we could do in the city once the truck is unloaded. We are going to be starving and will probably want a drink or two . It would be cool also to possibly see the fireworks. I want to check out a hip area; I have seen that Northern Liberties and Fishtown are supposed to be cool? What do you suggest? Thanks for your input!

Emily

Believe it or not the 4th week/end can be pretty quiet in Philly. As is the remainder of the summer shore season (seems like half the city heads to the Jersey shore in the summer)till Labor day then the fall jumps into excitement

That said, where are you moving, maybe (or others)can give some pointers

As a start, this web site lists a lot of the events going on in Philly for the Fourth of July. It is pretty comprehensive and includes a schedule.
Welcome America

Enjoy!

Thanks!! I would really like to see that concert! Here in Pittsburgh, we don't get to see the likes of the Roots and Common too often....

Welcome to Philadelphia!

Some big nightlife areas are Old City, Northern Liberties and South Street... there are a ton of other places all throughout Center City however.

Be prepared for unbearably hot and humid weather. 4th of July is usually the hottest time of the year. I hope your new place has good A/C

It is wonderful to hear someone so excited to come to our great city! Welcome, Emily! Philadelphia really does it up right for the 4th, as you can see from the Welcome America schedule.

Awesome! Thanks for your responses! I am very excited to move to Philly, although I have been getting a lot of negativity from both people here and those in Philly...to me...it is better than Pittsburgh...I think it is going to be awesome.

I won't diss Pittsburgh as I've never lived there, but I think Philly is a wonderful city and will open up a whole new world of experiences, here and in all the places that will now be driving distance for you -- Jersey shore, NY City, Baltimore, DC. The Welcome America celebration is already in full gear. It's supposed to be 92 on the 4th so maybe not quite as bad as it has been lately (all over the country, I might add). Let us know how you like it when you get here!

People in Philly love being negative. Besides, the Phillies are losing so everyone's a bit pissed.
