I was just looking at mapquest routes from Philly to the Bronx. I don't understand why it doesn't show the route as just a straight run up on I-95 North. It starts out on turnpike, jumps to 95, then goes to US 1 North then goes back to 95 to the George Washington bridge. Couldn't I just stay on I-95 the whole way up??? I don't like all that jumping on and off of highways with a lot of merging!!!

No need at all for US1. You're right - you can stay on the NJ Tpk. Go past the final toll barrier, then be on the lookout for signs for the GW. Really, very few turns required, and certainly nothing that would require you being on US1 (unless you somehow specified a "low/no tolls" option in mapquest).

That's what I thought! So, I can take the PA Tpk which becomes the NJ Tpk and it will pretty much be a straight run up to the GWB, correct?

Take the Betsy to 73 East to the NJ Turnpike all the way to the GW Bridge and accross Manhattan into the BX - fastest route

Someday I-95 will finally connect the two largest cities on the east coast that are <100 miles apart...

I'm actually in Bucks right near a turnpike entrance. Can't I just hop on PA tnpk in Bucks and doesn't that become the NJ tnpk once I cross over into Jersey?

Yes, the PA tpk leads to the NJ tpk via the NJ Tpk extension. Pretty easy.

It would connect you to Turnpike Exit 6 in Mansfield, NJ. Just remember the long-term widening project in that stretch up to Exit 8A.

And at that time you will wish for the good old days of the "light" traffic of 2013 on I95

i think mapquest takes "current" traffic into account and assumes you want the fastest route...

just download the Waze app. :-)
