The Old Stone Farmhouse in “Marley & Me”

It's not cheap, of course, I'm suggesting you look for homes like this to live in, I'm just saying this is the kind of scenery and landscape you'll see around here, it's a beautiful place in general.
Just an aside, the author of Marley and me lives here in the Lehigh Valley and the house where he wrote the book was in a development. But, I do love the pretend house from the movie! The movie house was in Chester, not Bucks, county: http://articles.philly.com/2011-07-1...lphia-inquirer

Hi!

Thank you for all your responses! I was wondering if any of you know of any language immersion programs in school (other than Spanish) around Philly?

Don't know if you are interested in French specifically, but there is the Ecole Francaise Internationale de Philadelphie located in Bala Cynwyd. I have no direct knowledge about the school. I just know that it exists. BTW, it's not just French immersion but is AEFE accredited, so I assume that the curriculum follows to some extent the French national curriculum. I don't know if they are preparing their secondary students to pass the baccalaureat for example.

We've definitely looked into the Ecole Internationale, but it's way too expensive.
We would love for our kids to attend a school that offers French immersion, but if there are no such options (without paying private school fees), then we'll just have to not do it--which sucks.
We've looked, and there doesn't seem to be such program in the area.

there's also st peter's at 4th and lombard (also private). keep in mind that private schools often charge less than their posted tuition. petite ecole is a preschool only at 22nd and arch and I think it's around $1000/mo. if I'm not mistaken ecole international is bala cynwyd. there is also a group that teaches french on the side

Seems like the OP may have made a decision already, but I thought I'd chime in.

My fiance and I picked Philly over Denver (as well as a few others) for several reasons. First, we want a more urban environment. Denver has some awesome city neighborhoods, but it has a more residential feeling than Philly's very urban core. The Philly downtown (Center City) really isn't that big, but it's much bigger than Denver's. Second is public transportation. Being city dwellers, we don't like driving so much, and Denver would be much harder for that. Even if we were to live in a suburb of Philly, it'd be really easy to take public transit into the city for a game or shopping. Third: culture. Philly just has more to offer in terms of history, museums, art, etc. Denver has that really awesome performing arts complex - and their pedestrian mall adjacent is amazing! It just doesn't compare to Philly. Lastly, the location factored heavily into the equation. We moved here in October, and we've been to DC and NYC a few times already by train & bus. That's just not possible in Denver. Denver is a fun city though!
