I just can't understand why the buses that run down Broad are so slow when it's one of the longest and busiest streets in the city. Why am I waiting for a broad street bus for almost 20 mins the 21 bus runs every 7 mins on Chestnut street? And I am even more surprised that the bus runs so slow during rush hour in the morning.

And here is something else that is mind boggling, it's 2 buses that run on Broad street and I am still waiting for 20 mins??? Let's just call this a Septa mystery

Of course the bus runs slower during rush hour. It has to drive in traffic like everyone else. The real mystery to me is why you're not avoiding the traffic altogether and taking the train that speeds from stop to stop at 50 mph right beneath you.

The Broad Street sub is dark, old, and crusty looking and I hate riding it.

Then sit in traffic on a bus. There is absolutely no need to increase the frequency of the buses serving broad st when there is rapid transit already serving the street capable of transporting millions.

I agree if it's between 10am and 3pm but from 7am to 9am it definitely should be running frequently

How many other people are standing outside waiting with you for 20 mins for a bus down broad street when the subway is running? If it's not many...then that might be the answer to your question. No demand.

septa's routes largely reflect the old streetcar routes and streetcars were banned from running on broad st which is why routes like the 23 ran on 11th and 12th rather than broad.

seems pretty insane to ride a bus to olney instead of the subway because it's "old and crusty" but the question is a good one

Not everyone likes being underground.

Why? So more buses can sit in traffic?

The major reason why the 4 even exists is because so many BSL stops are not ADA compliant. Once more stations are renovated and brought up to ADA standards you can look forward to actually seeing these buses coming even more infrequently.

Your reasons for not wanting to ride the subway are totally illogical. You don't want to be underground? It's dark and dingy? It's not a dayspa, it's a subway and if you were thinking rationally and making the best use of your time you'd be taking the subway and not messing around with a bus and sitting in traffic wasting your time.

Having said that, you have every right to be illogical. You have every right to do what you want and what makes you feel comfortable. So if you want to ride the bus, ride the bus. But you should at least recognize that your position is illogical and that there is absolutely NO NEED for more buses going down a road that is already very well served by public transit. It's never going to happen, it would be a total waste of resources. So if you really want to continue to ride the bus up and down broad st you should get used to waiting and not blame septa for your odd phobias and hangups.

I guess its hard riding a jammed pack subway with a lot of annoyed people in the morning. The bus is a more pleasant experience.
