Suggestions for research on demographic changes . . . (neighborhoods, school, income)

Gentrification is a hot button issue so I'm looking to put a lot of myths and legends to rest with some facts . . . or at least try to introduce some facts into the debate.

I'm gathering census data on Philly going back to 1950.

I'll be looking at race, ethnicity, household income, age, household size, school aged kids in family, where people moved from (and i'll also be looking at the suburban counties to see who was moving out of the city each census) . . . so i'll be able to break all that stuff out - I'll break out income and age by race, household size by income, etc.

I'm not doing the whole city - it would take far too long - I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to try to focus on particular neighborhoods or if I'll just do a blanket area. For instance, maybe I'd just do the city south of Allegheny Ave between the rivers. Or maybe everything south of Market including West & Southwest.

So i'm interested to know what data people would find useful and what parts of the city would be most demonstrative of the city as a whole.
