Hi. I'm a 38 yr old single female moving to Philly with a golden retriever. I will b working at PENN. I'm interested in opinions on best places to rent. I'd like someplace safe, relatively easy commute to city, parks for dog or possible yard for dog, close to nightlife/restaurants. Not a big fan of "city" living so not keen on living in center city or high rises. I was thinking chestnut hill or mainline. Any suggestions?

have you considered living west of UPENN in Delaware County, like maybe media or even Lansdowne.

I recently started working at the VA Hospital right next to HUP & PENN campus and it's an easy commute from Lansdowne using the Media-Elwyn regional rail.

and Lansdowne and Media appears to be very animal friendly...in Upper Darby, there's a dog park called Kent Park. Those who are given a key fob to enter the 2 dog parks (one for small and the other for big dogs) have gone through a short process of getting a dog license and proof of shots.

I guess if you're not really interested in the city but are looking at a close place with a Downtown and a night life and I'm assuming easy access to public trans to take you to and from work, I guess Chestnut Hill could be a solution. It's a very quiet neighborhood, but there are still plenty of pottery shops, clothing stores, and restaurants along Germantown Ave to keep you occupied during the weekend without having to go to Center City (I actually go there a lot myself!). Anyway, I guess you could also shoot for the Mainline, but it's really expensive. It depends upon your price range.

Also, can you fill this out:

When are you moving?
Where are you coming from?
Why are you moving?
Where will you be working?
Have you been here yet?

Will you buy or rent?
If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend?
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend?
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up?

Do you have a preference of living in a NJ or PA suburb?

Are you married or single? Do you have children?
Do you prefer public or private schools?
Do you have pets?
Do you want or need a yard?
Are you keeping a car?
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet?

What do you want to be closest to?
Work
Shopping
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Nightlife
Train or subway stations

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood?

Coke or Pepsi?
