Coolest thing about Philly I've found so far. (Philadelphia, Allentown: transplants, homes)

So I've been in Atlanta, NYC, DC, Seattle, Norcal, and bow Philly. The coolest thing I have found is that almost everyone in Philly has a Philadelphian accent. I think it's kind of neat, since I habent lived in a place that has a unique accent. Atlanta has an accent but there are so many transplants there now, it's pretty rare to hear it anymore. However it seems like everyone has the Philly accent everywhere I go. I have to be honest, I never really knew Philly had an accent. And is it me, or does Philly people seem kind of small townish? I know it's a huge city, but the people seem more small town in mannerisms. Kind of like Seattle in some ways. Or am I'm imaginging the accent and the more small town culture?

What do you mean by small townish? People definitely support their neighborhoods around here, which is part of why I moved here instead of Atlanta. Every weekend people in my neighborhood walk around cleaning it up, they have socials, and everyone in general tries to get to know one another, which is pretty unique in this day and age.

Philly gets a bad rap for being rude or unfriendly. Go live in certain parts of Northeastern PA, particularly the Lehighton area, and you'll see rude for sure. People here are brusque and don't have time for BS, but by and large they are kind and helpful.

You're not imagining it. Philly, in many ways, is a gigantic small town. That's part of its appeal, in my opinion.

And yes, that accent is almost everywhere. It can be nice if it's not too strong, but with others it's like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I love when I meet someone when I'm traveling, and I recognize their Phila. accent. Makes me homesick for my hometown.

I think the confusion with a small town is the sense of community that is here. I don't see philly as a big small town.

Congratulations on escaping Lehighton. We drive through on the way to Jim Thorpe and laugh at the hicks. Admittedly I am in Allentown, but I've been to Philly enough in my time and I know the scoop. People in Carbon County are indeed hopeless jabronies.

Can be a good or bad thing. Philly has less transplants than other places (though seems to be changing a bit) and people have roots here. It is also a city of neighborhoods. Those two together seem to create a smaller town feel in a way I believe.
