Zenos Frudakis freedom sculpture

I saw that a sculpture in Philly made a short list of intriguing sculptures from around the world. The sculpture is 20' by 8' and was finished in 2001. It is located at 16th and Vine less than 300 yards from Logan Square and less than a half mile walk to City Hall.

But when I look at it on Google maps, the location seems almost forlorn on an access road paralleling I676. The sidewalk is desolate and devoid of any people or signs of commerce.

Am I wrong? For those of you who live in Philadelphia, is this sculpture a well known work?

It is in an odd spot and most of us don't pass it every day like Claes Oldenburg's "Giant Clothespin" across from City Hall. However, sooner or later I think most of us notice it and say "Hey! That's a great sculpture!"

The area is not quite as desolate as it looks and won't be at all in about 2017.

The sculpture is located in what used to be the Philadelphia office of GlaxoSmithKline. GSK vacated the building a couple of years ago when they moved to the re-developed Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. The current occupant is a charter school, String Theory School.

The area will be very different in a couple of years because a huge residential high rise, town houses, and shopping is under construction, just opposite, on the NW corner of 16th and Vine.

Also there is a huge physical rehab center, run by the Jefferson Health System, a block away. A private Quaker school a block away. And lastly a Sheraton Hotel(been there for years) adjacent to it.

Is it well known in Phila.? I'd say, "No".

Maybe somebody can confirm (or deny) this for me - when I moved to Philly in the 80's, I remember somebody telling me that Philly had more outdoor art than any city in the world. Anybody know the veracity of that?
