Hi all,

I've come upon a conundrum I'm hoping you can help me figure out. My girlfriend and I have been living together in Wynnewood for the past year, but will each be making career changes soon and we're not quite sure if/where we should relocate. She will be working in Newtown, Bucks County, while I'll be down in Media-- on totally opposite sides of the city. Her commute would be about an hour and 10 minutes while mine will be only 15-20 minutes, but we'd like to balance it out since both of us will be required to be at work at odd hours 6-7 days/week. Naturally, CC seems the place to go, but we both own a car and have a limited rent budget (max $1200/mo).

Any suggestions on where we should look? We're still relatively new to the area, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

No easy solution given the commutes. Personally i would probably look up along the Pa Turnpike. Plymouth Meeting , Lafayette Hill, Ambler.

Good luck.

I think one of you will need to get a new job...

I recommend both getting jobs in the city

You mention working at odd hours... if that's the case then living somewhere near the Fort Washington exit of the PA Turnpike (or even somewhere close to 309) might not be as bad as you think. If you're not commuting during rush hour it's not that bad of a drive... lots of miles, but all highway.

Another vote here for Ambler which is right off 309.

Talk about easier said than done.

Will either of your jobs be convenient to a train station?

As previously mentioned, there are bunch of in-betweens. Ambler, Horsham, Hatboro, Willow Grove, Plymouth Meeting, Conshohocken, Norristown, King of Prussia are all locations accessible to 309, 476 and 276, which would give each of you a 30-45 min commute, depending on traffic and location.

Personally, I loved living in the Norristown/Plymouth Meeting area, espcially with my wife's family in Langhorne (near Newtown), I worked in Upper Darby for a while, then worked in CC.

Being in Norristown/Plymouth meeting gave me ltos of options for major roads and I could easily divert to others when traffic required it.

I hope that helps.

Yes, mine is within walking distance of the Media/Elwyn line but hers is beyond SEPTA's reach. Right now we're considering Conshohocken and Wayne, mostly because we don't know the city well...

Thanks for the replies, everyone!
