On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the cleanest neighborhoods in the Philly area? A 10 would mean no cigarette butts, wrappers, bits of trash on public streets and alleys, while a 1 would mean blatant disregard by much of the citizenry for keeping trash off the streets. I guess a 5 would be average, for example some debris left by careless children, smokers, newspaper readers, but the streets and sidewalks would be swept up enough that it did not get too bad over time. Looked at another way, 10 would be like Disney and 1 would be like no more than a once a year clean-up by the city--if that.

Pretty sure it's got a few close to 10s (in the city). In the suburbs / area there are many 10s.

Chestnut Hill/West Mt. Airy are close to 10s. CC can be hit or miss depending on the section. Fitler Square is pretty clean (8 or so).

I'd give Fox Chase a nine or ten. I agree about Chestnut Hill

Where I'm living in Manayunk is about an 8. Only trash I have seen is from the college kids who rent but generally one person will ask them not to do it again and it hasn't been a problem since.

Haha, I'd say Manayunk's number depends on the day of the week.

In center city proper it's block by block, not hood by hood. You can walk down delancey st and see nothing, then turn right and be swimming in garbage/vomit/dog crap...etc.

True, but they do have city workers routinely picking up debris on the sidewalks of the main streets. For that I would give it an 8.

I was going to suggest not publicizing the clean neighborhoods or the dirty people will go there and mess them up, but those types aren't generally on these types of sites.

I remember one year when I worked on Wyoming Avenue. It was always filthy. The block between C and D got repaved, and within a day the brand new street was completely filled with trash.

Sixteen years ago I delivered the Inquirer around A and Wyoming for a spell and I could not believe how trashy it was. I'd be tripping over trash as I was getting out of the car ... even people's porches were covered in trash. If I was the last civlized person on my street, I'd make sure my street never looked liked that. Unbelievable that not one person cared. Different cultures, you gotta love 'em!
Bridesburg is one of the cleanest inner city neighborhoods you'll see.
