Hi guys. So basically I am moving to Philly in 3 weeks. I will be working as a flight attendant and I want to be as close to the airport or as close to a ground transportation station since I don't have a car.
Do you think it's necessary for me to have a car in Philly? I don't have a car and I really don't know much about the city and how reliable the transportation is.
As a flight attendant, when scheduling calls us, we only have 90 minutes to prepare (pack our bags, get in our uniforms, and etc). So if I live there and I don't have a car, is the ground transportation reliable enough?
Or will I have to wait at the station 20-30 minutes before the next train comes? I don't want this to happen because I don't like being late and the airline industry is very strict.
Also in a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the lowest, how convenient/and or reliable is the transportation in Philly for someone like me?
I hope you can help me out if you have any suggestions or recommendations.
It would totally mean a lot. I dont know anyone, as in nobody in Philly so I have no one to ask but this site.

AFAIK, there are two routes to the airport

south philly near the 37 si a decent bet and an extremely walkable neighborhood. the train runs every 30 min, I know there are plans to get it to every 20 but who knows when that will happen. taxis run $28.50 from center city but since you work there you may be able to find a better deal. I'd guess the fare from south philly would be less as well, and could be used to plug the schedule.

If you only have 90 minutes from the call then you'll probably always be taking cabs at least to the airport. It depends on where you live in philly if a car will not be needed at all, somewhat maybe useful or you should probably have one.

I really wish I can work this out without a car. And also, can you tell me more a lil bit about university center. Ive hear from people that there are shady/sketchy parts of the city. Is the university city a safe and friendly neighborhood?

The $28.50 is the flat fare are from Center City to and from the airport. Otherwise, cabs are metered. I would suggest that rather than waiting for a bus in the middle of the night.
