Hey guys,
I'm going to be in Philly this weekend, my first time ever going there, and I have absolutely no idea what's there. My girlfriend and I are visiting her uncle, (a few blocks from Rittenhouse Square and near City Hall Station) and we will have all day Friday to ourselves, and then will probably be shown around on Saturday by her uncle before we go to the Phillies/Nats game. My question is, if we have only one day to do what we want, where should we go? We like nice bars (not trashy dive ones), good food, sports, nice views, good walking areas, shopping (her :P) and really anything that you recommend we do in our only free day. Thanks so much!

P.S. - Are there any areas I should avoid? I hear philly can be fairly dangerous

Too bad your free day is Friday. Otherwise you can try to be part of history.

Center City where you will be is very walkable and there are no areas you need to avoid. Have lunch at the Reading Terminal Market.

I'd suggest Reading Terminal Market as well! Just hang out in the city. No point in doing all the touristy stuff unless that's what your into. Get lunch at Reading Terminal Market. Go shopping along the high end shopping of Walnut Street. Check out Rittenhouse Square. Get dinner where you please (Serafina, Parc, El Vez, Devil's Alley) are some in the immediate area you may like. Stop for some early night drinks at Continential at 18th and Chestnut (ask to go up to the rooftop) and then head out for a night on the town at Ladder 15, or Time or Tavern on Broad, or Fado or Misconduct Tavern!

Don't know what you're into! Just making suggestions!

Really no place to avoid anywhere in Center City. Most of the bad areas of the city tend to be primarily located in North and West Philly.

I suggest trying to find one show or band etc (or something like penn's Archaeology and Anthropology museum) , pick out one good place to eat and the spend the rest just walking around. Might be good to visit old city and walk down to south street.
