Yes, in the city, maybe, but the OP asked for data regarding counties outside of the city and mentioned Montgomery County.

I was offering an alternative. Since the west edge of philly is right at the montgomery county/delaware county border and the opening poster did not give very much detail as to WHERE in those counties, I was letting him know that there are affordable options.

I know plenty of people living in the area with modest incomes who live perfectly decent lives without going into debt.

Yes, toxigal, he did as for all suggestions.

680 is still steep for someone who needs a car expense.

Are you a public employee or teacher? I'm thinking you could swing G-town on 32 if you had very little in the way of health care contribution or retirement savings needed.

Default i am currently a graduate student...

to be clear though, i don't currently live in philly. i live in a neighborhood in baltimore that seems to be very similar to the germantown/mt. airy area with respect to housing costs.

i dont' currently have to contribute towards my health insurance, though i do have school related fees (no tuition) and i contribute to my retirement every month.
