there were only three counties (philly, chester, bucks ) and they ran north and west from the delaware. chester ran west to the susquehana which is the most picturesque lart of lancaster today. ive heard complaints about the new residents in chester county. move iut there and start passing rules and attitudes that conflict with what i and some others perceive to be a more laid back chester county attitude

Yep! I don't consider myself that much of a transplant since I've been hanging out here since the 70's -but the young newbies with their Audis and BMWs and Starbucks hangouts are a different breed. Puts me in mind of Garnet Valley without the 5,000 square footage. Time to leave.

I'd say it depends on your preference. Interestingly enough, Lanco certainly has areas more rural than anywhere in Chesco, but it also has Lancaster, which is more urban than anything in Chesco. Chesco IMO is more idyllic because it has a lot more hills and valleys (at least from my experience, I can't say I've been everywhere in Lancaster) and has more forested areas, whereas Lanco is generally flatter (though not flat) and has a lot more farm land. Chesco is a LOT more suburban than Lanco, and there are certainly areas I'd classify as "suburban sprawl" in Chesco. This isn't necessarily a bad thing however, as it really is a convenient way of living. Still, Chesco has a few urban centers throughout it, and filling in the space is an older housing stock that can be very nice; lot's of historic homes in Chesco. Both are great counties, two of PA's best.
