Hi! My husband and I are moving to Philly this summer (d/t job relo) from Chicago. I would love to hear what everyone's favorite things about this great city are...

The history all around you.

Beautiful tree lined rowhome streets.

THE FOOD!

The realness and depth of the city and people. It is hard to find a city with more character.

The unique urban mixture of rowhomes/high rises/old stone twins and singles along with Fairmount Park.

And of course the food.

Culture. Black people that party (house parties). White people that party. College people that party. Music. Food. Welcome to Philly.

Beautiful, old, walkable city. The real luxury that Philly provides compared to many other cities is that you can live within walking/biking distance of where you work, in a wonderful neighborhood. Not having to drive to work is priceless.

And of course, as others have said, the food. Before I moved here I didn't expect it, but the restaurants here are uniformly better than in just about any other city. (Every city has good restaurants, but here you don't have to look for them -- walk into one you pass on the street and chances are its great)

After living in Seattle and the Bay area, I love the down to earth people.

OP, I too moved to Philly from the Midwest. People here are very down-to-earth and not full of themselves (looking at you Bostonians). My family/friends who come to visit note that people aren't as friendly as they are in the Midwest, but I mean, who is?

The food is outstanding, especially the food trucks and the diversity of ethnic restaurants. The city is very walkable, public transit better than most big cities (but not as good as others), traffic is usually pretty good (except that damn bottleneck on 76 by Boathouse Row), and there are plenty of good schools (at all levels) in the area.
