We are looking for a (relatively) safe area in Center City
(or elsewhere in/around Philly if there are any good suggestions)
where we could find a high-rise 2br/2bath unit for $700K (up to
$800K if needed). Is there a specific building that is good?
Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Society Hill Towers fit your description, great neighborhood and you should find units in that price range. The major realtor who deals with condos in Center City is Alan Domb Real Estate, so you might start by searching their web site to get an idea of the possibilities.

I just looked at my Academy House bulletin. Allan Domb has a corner 2 bedroom 1.5 bath, separate dining room, spacious living room and a lots of light condo for $329,900. He also has two 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath condos for $665,000 and $755.000.

St James would be ideal, excellent location/views. I could be wrong but I believe that the St James is apartments only though.

Not sure when you are planning to buy but there are 4 or 5 new high rise condos being built right now but they wont be complete for a few more months/ years depending on the tower. You might want to rent at the St James or somewhere else for a bit and get a feel for the city, and then maybe buy into one of the new towers.

City View which is on the Ben Franklin Parkway has been around for awhile(older) but I love the views from there and you could probably find a 2 br from the 20th floor for half the price you are budgeting. Great location 1/4 mile from the Art Museum + Schuylkill River park a 15 minute walk to center city.

Some newer condos going up now to give you an idea what you can get for your money.

The Rittenhouse Square area is one of the nicest in the city. Prices have been coming down so it may be a good opportunity to get a deal.
