To people familiar with employers in Cennter City, can anyone tell me if there are any large life insurers located there? I currently work in statutory financial reporting for a large life insurer whose back office financial operations are located in Tampa. I've been considering a move a Philly for a change of scene. Ideally, I would like to look for similar type work. That would include a large life insurer whose financial operations are located in Center City. My plan would be to live close to work. In my past several visits to Philly, I really loved the urban scene it offers. I want to ditch the suburban sprawl existence of Tampa and go urban.

New York Life Insurance Company
New York Life Insurance Company - The Company You Keep
630 Wharton Street Philadelphia, PA

Not quite center city, but only about a 10 minute or under bus ride away (the 47 bus) and a two block walk. I would suggest looking in Washington Square West or Bella Vista (a bit south of the city, but even closer (about a 5 minute bus ride - same bus) to 6th and Wharton. You can walk into center city from Bella Vista - that's how close it is.

State Farm Insurance - Philadelphia
254 South 10th Street Philadelphia, PA

Right in center city. Washington Square West would be very close - just a few blocks away, but any area of center city would be walkable.

Check craigslist for apartments in either area.

Good luck and good decision.

Thanks for the info Newmarlig. I'll check it out. Wash. Sq. West would be ideal to live in.
