This is basically what might end up being the dealbreaker in an otherwise very attractive job offer. Too bad I can't convince the employer to move to a more urban area just for me! I would love to be able to live in a place like CC.

West Chester is a great place, a college town and the County seat. The town is very walkable, plenty of bars and restaurants; and there are plenty of options for either renting or buying. Another good option may be Media, it too has a nice walkable town area.

This is probably a longshot (which my iPhone wanted to correct to "longshoreman" LOL), but if you could convince your employer to run a shuttle between, say, Paoli Station and your workplace, you'd be looking at a 45 minute train ride from Center City plus a 5-10 minute shuttle trip. Obviously, they wouldn't do it just for you, but I bet it would be popular with other employees as well.

Is there any potential that I could buy a beater car, leave it near the station, and commute from CC? This job would pay well enough relative to where I'm at now that buying something like an older civic for that purpose wouldn't be much of a concern. I also like biking, any chance taking a train and then riding my bike the rest of the way would be an option?

Some people do leave cars at SEPTA stations and do just that, though others will have to tell you how hard or easy it is to get a parking permit at Devon through Paoli. Car/bike-wise, any of the three could work, with Berwyn seeming to have the most direct route to the Chesterbrook Corporate Center.

Others with more direct knowledge/experience can elaborate further.
