Hi knowledgeable friends! I got a riddle for you. I appreciate all the advice I can get.

I :
got a job in center city that pays 60-70K.
love to run in parks
shop frequently (proximity to grocery store is important)
love to socialize and mingle with people from diverse careers
plan to sublet/rent out my place, seasonally, to tourists (near tourist attractions)
will not have a car (metro access is important)
Where do I live?

If being close to tourist attraction is a priority, I would recommend Old City or Washington West. If you are the type that wants to shop for groceries and avoid the "pick up a few things every couple days" I would recommend Shop Rite, online at home delivery. That is what the wife does.

Here are some legitimate options for you.

Great "park" for exercising is on the Schuylkill river trail, it is fantastic really and goes for several miles right along the river, there is a Trader Joes at 21st and Market as well as a whole foods at 21st and Pennsylvania Ave, and i'm sure there are a few other options in the area as well. Center City (and its surrounding area) have a plethora of fantastic restaurants and nightlife options, as well as behind the hub of activity in Philadelphia. If you are going to sublet or rent out in different seasons then i'm sure you can always find a taker for an area such as that...not to mention you would be about 6-7 blocks from the subway station at City Hall that connects to both the Broad Street and Market Frankford lines. Therefore I'd recumbent somewhere in either the Art Museum area, Graduate Hospital, Center City West of Broad Street or Rittenhouse. Seems like those are winners for you. But hey that is just my opinion.

How much do you want to spend and how much space do you want?

Assuming you don't want roomates it may be a bit tight finding a place in center city, however, center city will be the best place to rent out your apartment for tourists.

I recommend looking at the East Passyunk part of South Philly. Easy access to several supermarkets, several small organic markets, and access to the Italian market. Neighborhood has easy access to the Broad Street Subway and very easy to live without a car (I did it for 6 years). East Passyunk Ave has many bars and coffeshops for mingling; the neighborhood has attracted many young professional and creative types.

It may be difficult to rent out your place in south philly, however the Italian Market and Pats/Genos are tourist attractions so it probably wouldn't be impossible.

Hey thanks for ideas and suggestions!
I picked a place between the arts district and central city. I think it works well for my needs.
