Hi,

I just moved to Philadelphia and I'm looking for some "touristy" (or not so touristy) places to go with my camera. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am interested in seeing some cool places in the city like cultural centers, museums, buildings, or anything that is a known for sight-seeing. I am also interested in parks and wildlife (I've been to Ridley Creek State Park, which was nice). Can you suggest any other interesting places?

Also, I would love to get some skyline shots of the city but I have no idea where people go to see the city. Pittsburgh has Mount Washington with its beautiful view of the city. Is there a similar place in Philadelphia where sightseers go for views of the city skyline? Someone once told me Camden, but they weren't sure.

Thanks so much for your help. If you'd like to see some of my pics of previous places, take a look at: www.flickr.com/photos/_dna_/ (broken link)

As far as nature goes Valley Forge National Park is a great place for photographers. Also in Fairmount Park up in Chestnut Hill is Forbidden Drive/Wissahickon Gorge excellent nature scenes/outdoors area. Chester County has a bunch of nature preserves to take advantage of, Ashbridge is a mile or so N of Ridley Creek State park.French Creek State Park and Marsh Creek Lake are up in Northern Chester County, very nice scenery. And of course if you really want to get serious the Pocono Mts are only 1 1/2 hours away.In the summer Cape May Point.

The closest thing Philadlephia has to Mt Washington would probably be Belmont Plateau which is in Fairmount Park approximately 3-4 miles from Center City-up the hill from West River Drive. The Zoo Balloon probably is your best bet for skyline shot. Its an anchored balloon that rises about 400 feet with amazing views of the city. The South Street Bridge by the UNiv of Penn also has top notch views of the skyline. You would love the residential neighborhoods of Center City Philly, the history makes them very camera friendly.EG Fitler Square,Rittenhouse Square,Soceity Hill,Old City among others.
