I was too young to remember this strike and could not find anything online about it. I know it was a very long strike that lasted over a 100 days. I just remember the 1998 strike when I had a cab picking me up from my house everyday for 40 days. lol So how many people were affected by the strike? I could not find anything on youtube and was hoping to find some old news footage about it.

I remember the 1998 strike vividly. I lived in Upper Darby and had to take a "reverse" commute on the trolley to the then-R3 train in order to get into town. Then I had a heck of a walk ahead of me from the Temple stop to my employer.

Like rotodome, I was in school in 1983 (out in the burbs) so the strike didn't affect me, fortunately.

I remember it well because I was working in Center City at 16th and JFK Blvd. I believe, but am not sure, that the regional rail workers were on strike also.

We only had one car so my dad drove me to 5th and Market and picked me up from the same location coming home. In the core of Center City the traffic was an absolute nightmare. Not a lot of fun but I did get some good exercise walking to and from my pick up point.

' 83 was the only strike between '69 & 2000 that didn't effect me in some way.

You know, I was scratching my head trying to remember this strike. Then I simply googled it and saw that it concerned regional/commuter rail and, additionally, the transition from Conrail ownership to Septa management.

I never used regional rail back then (and very rarely use it now) so it had no direct impact for me.

But, today, such a strike would be pretty paralyzing since so many more people use those trains.

Wow, that strike where they left everyone stranded in the afternoon was in 1998? Time really does fly.

Fortunately I lived a few blocks from one of the regional rail stops and was able to make it home without spending it on a cab. I think it might have been 1998 (but who knows since they've had so many strikes) when there was a really bad afternoon storm around rush hour. It affected a majority of the rail lines and quite a few people where I work were on a train that stayed in the tunnel for over an hour.
