Are there any cities you can think of that are similar to Philly but with warmer weather? My friend loves everything about Philly except for the weather. She loves the heat. She is such an east-coast girl, loves the fast-paced life, having stuff to do all the time, etc. But she would love to skip winter and have a really long summer.

Any suggestions?

New Orleans. Seriously.

The old architecture. The strong blue-collar tradition. The familiar Philly/NYC accents (think Emeril Lagasse). The rabid sports fan base (albeit for one sport).

The only "con" New Orleans may share with Philly is having considerable pockets of challenged neighborhoods. However, it appears from observation that challenged areas are more clearly defined in Philly than in New Orleans where it can change by the block in some cases.

Oh, and I don't know if New Orleans is quite as fast-paced as Philly but they certainly don't lack for festivals down there. Bourbon Street will get old quickly but there are other areas for nightlife popular with locals.

The only city that is really like Philadelphia is NY and maybe Chicago but I think the most similar with warm weather is New Orleans. Of course it is much smaller and slower but it is old and has a lot of traditions that have developed over time, unlike other sunbelt cities. Even Dallas, which has some history feels raw compared to Philly. I haven't been in NOLA since the storm but I am guessing the atmosphere hasn't changed that much.

Baltimore

You will not find anything like Philly in the South.

I suppose I was thinking more of Philly/NYC Italians...but yes you're right, that's not the predominant accent there. Of course, you might hear a bit of Cajun although not as much as you might expect. If natives have a southern accent, it's less pronounced than other parts of the South.

Everytime I'm in Baltimore, I feel like I'm back in Philly...except that their waterfront is more attractive than their downtown instead of vice versa up here.

Baltimore isn't a warm weather city.
