I have a new job in the healthcare field in Southwest Philly. I'm a few blocks from the 12th District Precinct. I'm not exactly from the streets, but I'm not naive. My old stomping grounds were all of NE including Lawncrest and Olney in the 90's.

The only thing I'm concerned about is walking to my car at night and also the safety of my car. My place has a parking lot, but the other guy I work with (63 years old, been working there about 5 years, swears he never had a problem) walked me down a dimly lit alley to go through a hole in the fence to get to it. I wasn't real happy about that. It was very shady. I could park on the street, but it's metered. I might not have time to run out every 2 hours to put quarters in the meter.

Maybe I'm over exaggerating or maybe my insecurities are getting the best of me. I don't know. I was told most of the crime happens in drug deals or people that know each other. Besides, there are all kinds of medical personnel in the area such as general practitioners, dentists, physical therapists etc. If it was that bad, those places wouldn't last.

Has anyone ever worked down there? What was your experience? I have been robbed before, I'd like for it to not happen again.

Nevermind. I took a ride down there again today in the daylight. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's not great, but not terrible.

However, if anyone has any input, feel free to chime in.
