Just found out from my mom it happened two weeks before christmas which was shocking to me since that area is always busy. Plus I always see UOP police presence in the area so I figured no one would even try anything. But I know for a fact wpvi or philly.com didn't mention it because I get my news from both everyday.

Although it was a retail theft, DPS sent out the initial alert to inform the Penn community to be cautious, Rush said
Are UPENN cops also in on the PPD thing of not classifying crimes properly and sweeping things under the rug?

This is not a retail theft. This is not someone swiping some bubble gum.

This is a violent armed robbery committed by a gang.

That is why it's so shocking especially for that area. I have been on 40th and walnut at 12am and it was still active

So for that to happen at 10pm was crazy

It IS shocking now. But it wasn't all that uncommon to have drug-related shoot-outs right at that intersection back in the 80s. Those things were one of the reasons, I suspect, that Penn created a real police force instead of the lame, untrained, "guards" they used to have.
