She took a huge amount of time off and probably expects to resume her public career while the city, itself, has changed and evolved.
If I remember correctly, didn't people push her to run after Rendell? I know that at an earlier point there was a push for her to run but I think that her husband had health problems.

Yes, there was a push for her to run before. But now she thinks this is a good time to do it. Who is advising her? We'll see if she gets any union support. Carpenters have a huge sign for Anthony Williams outside of their headquarters so they don't want her.

Not sure if someone is advising her or if things have come together for her, personally. So many large cities have had female mayors, maybe she decided that now is the time for Philadelphia. It's always been difficult to second guess her.

I'd like to see the DNC meet in Philadelphia with a female mayor in charge. 4 years ago Charlotte got the convention for 2 reasons. Firstly, NC had gone for Obama in 2008 & the city had gone Democratic. Second, but most important, Philadelphia turned it down.

I'm hoping it will bring more money to the city so it can make appropriate improvements.

I'm a female, so, sure I'd like to see a woman as mayor here some day. Just someone of a younger generation than Abraham. She pre-dates the oldest Boomers. She was born before our country's entry into WWII!

So true about her age.I have to say, though, she was one of those rare females that we, as boomers, could look up to for inspiration to do what everyone told us that we couldn't do, you know, "because you're a girl".

I think that we were lucky that we had her & a few others.

I'm a white man, so, I'd like to see another white man as mayor before I die.

Really? We had over 300 straight years of white male mayors. Get over it.

That's a forgone conclusion. Some of those improvements need to happen before the Pope comes here in September.
