I know most of you probably know how awful the I-76W/Route 1 merge is during the AM rush. I've been avoiding this by taking the river drives and then entering 76W from City Line Ave. This can get backed up as well however.

I was wondering if anyone has tried taking the river drives to ridge ave to main st in manayunk and then entering 76W from Green Lane? Does anyone know how this route would be during the AM rush - around 730-8?.... Or does anyone have any alternate routes they take?

What are your starting points and destination? There are some back roads like 23 that would work depending on what your destination is.

You might want to try West River Drive up to Belmont Ave then left on Conshohocken State Road(Rt 23) if you are headed to Conshohocken/KOP.
But ultimately everyone has the same idea and those roads tend to get crowded as well. But its nice to use as a diversion once in awhile to break up the monotony of sitting in the 76 traffic day after day.

Luckily I don't have to travel 76 every day as I constantly go to different places for work. When I do take 76, I am starting from South Jersey and usually traveling to either Exton, Malvern, or Pottstown Area - so I need to get to the 202/422 interchange. I really don't mind 76W from Manayunk to 202/422 - it's just getting through the Rt1 merger that bugs me.

Yep, Kelly Drive to Main Street(Manayunk) to Green Lane would work as a detour for the Rt 1 merge.

Or as I mentioned West River Drive to Belmont Ave will take you right to the entrance to I-76 past the Rt 1 merge. Belmont Ave and Green Lane are the same road coming from different directions. Belmont heads north from City Line, Green Lane heads south from Manayunk, they meet at I-76.
