What would Philadelphia be like if Comcast had moved out of the city? Would Philly have become the "next" Detroit? To me, it seems that Comcast has created a level of economical importance for the city and the regions and is the reason for why a lot of companies are moving to Philly. Any thoughts?

Comcast doesn't even make the top 20 employers in Philadelphia.

See the 50 biggest employers in the Philadelphia region in 2013 - Technical.ly Philly

considering they are opening up a new 100% occupied tower, if they pulled out now, Center City's office space market would probably be turned on its head.

It will be a good idea for NBC to move their studios from New York to Philly and have all the programs broadcast here (Today Show and others).

no, Penn, drexel, and temple would have prevented it from becoming detroit (detroit wouldn't be detroit if U of M were within its borders) but clearly it would be much worse off.

LOL!

Aren't you some troll who actually lives in the Bay Area? You got called out elsewhere.

The above is NEVER gonna happen. Comcast spent million improving the famous art deco masterpiece, 30 Rock, and it's underground concourse that partially faces the ice skating rink.

But, aren't they going to move NBC10 to the new technology center?

Exactly. The entire eds/meds "industry" would have prevented it and has prevented it.

Comcast is the largest company headquarted in Philadelphia (not including suburbs) so that would be a pretty big deal if they moved out. The two largest towers in the city would be vacant..

Or...they would get converted to condos and/or hotels, like what happened to the other skyscrapers in CC that got emptied out by sweeter tax deals across town.
But yeah, it would be a big hit for Philly if Comcast left.
