We are in T/E, which also has top ranked schools. Berwyn/Devon and parts of Wayne/Paoli/Malvern. The Great Valley school district is also great, and you can get a lot more house for your money, but I think the proximity to the airport might not be worth it for you. From Berwyn it takes us 35/40 min without traffic.

+1. Couldn't have said it better. "An area is what you make of it" as per Wells5.

Philadelphia is closer to NYC in size and feel than Pittsburgh is to Philadelphia.

Scranton toPittsburgh is Poconos to Appalachia kind of a neutral transition. Scranton to Philly gets you to a top 5 market.
I agree with everything except the bolded. Pittsburgh is a very nice city and a big step up, culture and amenity-wise, from NEPA.

I can also concede that Pittsburghers come across as more friendly and laid-back, but less insular they ain't.

Swarthmore, PA is a great place to live and the schools are incredible. 20 minutes to the airport. Springfield is also a great place and right next to Swarthmore.
