I am going to move to Philly in June, so I need an advice on where to settle down.

Here is some basic info regarding our move:

When are you moving? Philadelphia Center City
Where are you coming from? Charlotte, NC, spent 1.5 years there, 2 years in Chicago before that.
Why are you moving? Got a job in Center city, also starving for city life after spending some time in suburbia
Where will you be working? Center City, Comcast Center
Have you been here yet? Spent a week last year in Center city and South Philly

Will you buy or rent? Rent
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? Apartment 1br or 2br, 1500 - 2000
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? more modern is better, would like to avoid living on the first floor

Are you married or single? Do you have children? Married no children
Do you have pets? a cat
Are you keeping a car? own a car
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? would like to be able to walk out to amenities

What do you want to be closest to?
Work
Shopping
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)

Would like to walk to work when weather is nice and take transit once it is not. Also I am a bit concerned if I it is easy to find an apartment with a parking lot.

All input is highly appreciated.

Maybe one of the new apartment complexes that were just built. Granary,Evo,2116 chestnut etc etc.

Google Center City Philadelphia apartments and you should have 1000 decent options.

Rittenhouse Square,Art Museum,Spring Garden,Washington West,University City, Old City etc etc..

Center City is relatively safe but stuff walks. Make sure you keep a keen eye on pocketbook/wallet//ipad etc etc, buy a good lock for your bike. ...

good luck

Welcome to Philly, you'll find plenty of very nice apartments for your price range in the neighborhoods listed above.

You'll be able to find some high end apartments with a parking garage spot included, but there aren't alot of surface lots in Philly (thank God). Many Center City apartment buildings do have discounted garage passes for their tenants.

Just out of curiosity, if you plan to walk or take transit to work every day, why bring your car at all? Unless you have friends in the burbs you want to visit or family within driving distance there's really not much of a need for a car IMO. Center City will have all your basic services (grocery, drug store, medical) without the need to drive. And on that rare occasion you need a car, there are two car shares availiable that are very convienet.
