It was a very relaxed and calm environment and when you went there it was mainly couples not tons and tons of families with kids running around. You were able to take your date down to Penn's Landing and sit under the trees and have a relaxing experience but not in 2015. The area has turned into a jammed packed environment due to all the beer gardens and roller skating rink which has reduced the romantic atmosphere the area once had in 1995. I will say that the only nice night to go to Penn's Landing is Public movie night since it's a work night but overall I just don't like the atmosphere anymore. You have all these people jammed packed into this one little area which gives the overcrowded feel when you are walking around.

All I can say is the 1995 Penn's Landing is gone forever

Good riddance. Nothing about it was romantic. No investment. And a bunch of rotting piers nearby.

A sign of getting older is when change becomes harder to process. Sounds like you're getting there.

Too bad you don't care about Philadelphia becoming a vibrant, thriving, growing city again. That often means families who actually want to be in the city.

Anyhow go to Race St Pier. It's a bit calmer.

I believe there are other piers now that fit this description 100% and almost certainly a lot nicer.

it was "romantic" because it was poorly lit and deserted, and so folks would get it on over there because no one would see.

so..romantic in the same way that kids driving out to a deserted overlook and making out in their cars is romantic.

but FBJ I thought you were the guy who liked everyplace brightly lit!

I was able to take a stroll with a date at Penns landing without seeing a bunch of kids on a saturday evening around 7pm. Can I do that today at 6pm? I don't think I can because it's too many people.

I used to like Penns Landing until I went to UW in Seattle and a decade later, I went to San Fran and hung out on the Embarcadero/Fisherman's Wharf...even driving down to Santa Cruz made me prefer that boardwalk over AC

10-20 years ago, I was thinking that maybe Penns Landing could be like the Embarcadero or Pike Place Market. unfortunately, it still looks like crap. I was hoping that casino development would improve the area, but only 1 of the planned casinos were built...I hope Penn's Landing lives up to its potential before I die
