One of the things we miss the most about our old house is the fireplace. We burned fires every night it seemed. So now in our condo, there's no fireplace and no way to change that.

We did see though, a gel fireplace that looked kinda cool. It certainly wouldn't replace what we had and some of them are on the cheesy side, but it seems like if you take em for what they are, it could add a bit of the ol' ambiance we had before.

My question is...is this something we have to clear with a condo board? It says it's perfectly safe, burns clean without need for venting and is essentially cleaner than a candle. But I also could envision anot HOA saying "What!? A fireplace!? No way!"

Wondering if anyone has one of these.

When in doubt look at the community documents but I think with a gel fireplace you'd be fine. Do it. Source: my husband is on our hoa board and deals a lot with this kind of stuff. Perfect for the holidays!

It seems like our hoa are super cautious. Just got a notice that we can't have a real Christmas tree because of the fire hazard.

Condo docs specify that we aren'the allowed to bring any flammable substance into the building. Would that mean a candle? A lighter?

Should I just play dumb and not even bring it up?

Aplologies. This is the first time we'very ever lived in a condo before.

Definitely ask if candles are permitted. Gauge further questions by the answer to that question

You should feel free to discuss your concerns/questions with your board and/or property manager after all you are new there. T

It stinks that real trees are not allowed. We can have them in my building.
