I would suggest Media and Swarthmore. Both are cute towns close to Aston and accessible to the city if you want to go in, close enough to Delaware for tax free shopping, great schools and less expensive than the Main Line. Media has a Trader Joe's if that's on your radar.

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate your time and responses. Media, Springfield, Swarthmore seem like good bets for a first apartment.

I've heard from quite a few people about the high property taxes in Swarthmore, but we'll cross that bridge when it comes time to look for a house.

If you enjoy the Media area you may just want to settle there in the future. Schools on par with the districts around the Main Line and IMO the Media area is nicer and not as congested as most of the Main Line.

Thanks, that's reassuring. I'm not the best driver in congested situations, so if I can avoid stressful driving without compromising school system quality, I'm all for it. It seems like many of the school systems in southeastern PA are excellent, so obsessing over the rankings might just be splitting hairs, at that point.
