I looked into the towns suggested and will be flying in to take a look in the next few weeks and hopefully sign a lease

Narrowed it down for now to a few to a few apartment complexes in Ardmore, Wynnewood and Bala Cynwyd, per everyone's recommendations.

Hopefully I can find what I am looking for!

While it is tempting to live in the city center, (single and 31) I don't think it will be smart to commute (even though I think it will be a reverse commute?) considering + extra taxes + parking and what I'm assuming will be higher rents.

I've gotten recommendations from the future boss if I'm considering living in the city (He thinks it is a good idea considering my marital status + age bracket) to "consider Center City or Fairmount, or Queen Village, or Fishtown or another real Philly neighborhood and I would personally recommend against the neighborhoods of Manyunk and Roxborough" so going to start researching those places just in case
Hmmm, Becca(who I think responded)lives in Manayunk. I think she's about your age and she loves it there. I live in the neighborhood next to Fairmount, Spring Garden. Fairmount is very nice and will put you very near Fairmount Park. But, Fairmount is very popular with young families with young children. It's okay for singles but it's quiter than some other suggested city neighborhoods.

I think you'll be fine in Ardmore, Wynnewood or Bala Cynwyd; maybe moreso in Ardmore than the other two. Here's the thing: Ardmore and Wynnewood are right on the R5 (sorry, it's now called the Paoli-Thorndale) line that takes you right into Center City.

Find an apartment you like and sign a one-year lease. If, after your first year, you find that you're spending more time in the city than the burbs, you can make a change at that point. But in terms of your thoughts about cost savings, etc., I think closer to your job is a good first place to start, to get a feel for the area and get your bearings.

Yep, I'm 31, have lived in Manayunk for over 2 years and absolutely love it!

Thing with Manayunk is that it's definitely more than a 15min drive and likely upwards of a half hour depending on where in Manayunk and traffic. Out of all the neighborhoods suggested near the medical center, I'd pick Ardmore. I strongly considered Ardmore as one of my neighborhoods to look at but unfortunately it was out of my price range and Manayunk was just everything I was looking for.

Thanks so much. That is what I have decided to do.

Looked at a few places there, will schedule appointments. But you are right it is on the upper end of my budget!
