Thank you- I'm leaning to the suggestions to shuttle from Newark to Philly and then making an adventure out out of the trip to NY . The Bolt Bus is on the list. I appreciate all of the help and look forward to exploring Philadelphia.

I too would recommend Megabus or Bolt Bus. Compare both for pricing because sometimes one will be a bit cheaper than the other. The buses have huge storage compartments for luggage so no worries there. The buses are clean, modern and will drop you right off in Manhattan. You might be able to save some money going this route.

If you do the Bolt Bus to NYC you need to book about a month in advance. Don't wait till the last minute or you'll be placed on standby or worse.

I think MegaBus and BOLT buses will only work if you are traveling light.
I personally suggest renting a car or van.

Why? They're commercial buses with plenty of storage space. I've found it more problematic to transport a full load of people, each with a full size suitcase in oversize vans. There's also the cost of bridge tolls into Manhattan if you drive. I have never used Mega or Bolt bus, but my kids have many times and they often had a full size bag.
