It is a truly great sandwich.

I'll be contrarian and give a shout-out to the Philly surf 'n turf, or as my great-grandfather called it, "fishcake and a doggie."

My first experience with Philly and cheesesteak wasn't a good one. I was in the Reading Terminal Market and one place claimed on its sign to have a great cheesesteak. Didn't sucker me, but I thought I'd try it anyway. The guy rattled off a list of ingredients to add and I agreed to many and when it was totaled up, I bought a $17+ cheesesteak . I was nickeled and dimed up to a very expensive sandwich.

The sandwich was...ok...but not worth $17!!!!
