Topic Drift is not uncommon
Ambler would be a good choice: about 20-25 minutes to Levittown, has regional rail (SEPTA) service to Center City, and has a small but functional downtown (movie theater, restaurants, etc.)

Ambler 25 minutes from Levittown I think may be a stretch unless your Mario Andretti. But Ambler is a nice town. If the OP once some town like walk-ability with good eats and drinks Yardley or Newtown would be the closest.

You're right - Google Maps says more like 35-40 minutes (based, I guess, on distance between town centers).
Both Yardley and Newtown are good, "Ambler-like" choices (longer train commutes, though, and I'm not sure if SEPTA serves Newtown).

I'd say also look into Jenkintown, Abington, Glenside, Dresher, and Horsham if you don't want something as far out of the city. They are close-in suburns that are in the same or neighboring townships and they have great access to both Septa regional rail to take you downtown and are near or right off of the turnpike. Not as close to Levittown, but a lot closer to nightlife. There are some restaurants in this area especially Jenkintown and Glenside with plenty of shopping near all of the above, but this area puts you at night and on the weekends about 10 minutes to Chestnut Hill, 20 minutes to Manayunk, and 35 minutes to Center City.

In terms of the commute to Levittown from here, if you're a faster driver who can maneuver in traffic okay, it takes about a half hour from these areas, it's the reverse on the turnpike that can slow you up big time in the morning, but heading out towards Jersey moves pretty darn good. Not sure exactly where you're going, but when I've had to go up to NYC for the day, I leave at regular commuting times before 8am and it takes me about 20 minutes to get from the Willow Grove exit on the PA turnpike to the Route 13 Bristol/Levittown exit.

Good luck with your apartment/townhome search and your move.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I will definitely look into these areas when we start apartment-hunting!
