I only know that place by walking past it. Don't know if it's okay or not. It's on 18th St just south of Fairmount Ave. The nearby area, in general(which also includes Francisville) is going through a lot of gentrification. Fairmount is the nicest of the three(Fairmount, Spring Garden, Francisville). But Francisville is getting most of the new and rehabbed construction right now.

The nearest subway station to that building , at Broad St and Fairmount Aves, is Fairmount. The trains(the BSL)will take you directly to Center City.

Once you decide where you want to live we can explain more about getting around on transit. It's NOT like NYC but it's better than Baltimore.

I thought it was a scam until I did street scrolls on google maps for those vs the streets on higher rentals in Rittenhouse. The finishes in the apts are more elaborate & the streets are a bit cleaner.

Apts in my area now generally start @ $800-$900/mo for a 1BR, but after talking 2 a super in the area, there are some that start @ $600/mo. It just depends on the landlord, newness/renovation, etc.

I do plan on coming 2 Philly throughout June 2 inspect some of the places. I'm not looking 4 a 24 hr doorman or anything like that.

I appreciate the feedback. Please keep it coming as I continue 2 do my research. I take everything n with due diligence.
I find it very hard to believe that you're finding apartments that cheap in the upscale neighborhoods you mentioned. Are you sure they're not income restricted? Places like Rittenhouse are the most expensive neighborhood in Philly, you wouldn't get a closet for less than $500 per month. Perhaps you can post a link to one you're referring to?

Baltimore's subway only has 15 stops, which is a joke. Good thing I walk 2 work & my school has a free shuttle that stops by my apt. I spend most of my time n NY, so I look 4ward 2 my move 2 Philly. It's a lot closer 2 NY. I have NY's subway down pack since H.S., so getting around should b easy. I really appreciate ur feedback. Ur awesome.

The apts I found 4 that price r n Society Hill, Old City, Fairmount & Graduate Hospital. Rent n my area generally starts @ $900/mo 4 a 1 BR. I pay $800. I spoke 2 a super n my area that works 4 a guy who owns a bunch of houses n my area. He told me the apts r way cheaper than what some landlords n the area r trying 2 charge. I guess it depends on the rental property. The closer some properties r 2 sketchy blocks, they seem 2 b a little cheaper. My income is restricted, so it's all good 4 me.

The one has a heading of 'Fairmount,' but the ad goes on to say 'Bella Vista,' which is in South Philly. Another says 'University City' then goes on to say 'Society Hill' in the ad ... And, trust me, you're not renting a house in Fairmount for $598 or $650 a month. These ads are lies ... don't believe everything you read on Craigslist.

I moved up from Baltimore (with a brief stop in Wilmington). I have to say I love it here. I found my apartment through a work colleague in University City. After reading so many horror stories of landlords (and creepy-crawlies) in Philly, I was really scared to dish out 3 of months move-in expenses and having to fight it out with a slumlord. I would take advantage of any connections you know before finding a place on Craigslist. Septa is a DREAM compared to mass transit in Baltimore. Good luck with the move!

Please don't give these people money. These are clearly scams.

+1

These are all scams. Those places are way too nice for those prices. I wonder if they're even in Philly.

I can tell you, factually, that the Colonnade does not have 24 hr desk security. I own two units in the building. The photos shown are a pretty accurate depiction of how some rehabbed apts look. BUT the rent, whoever is charging, is VERY low because it barely covers the monthly condo fees, nevermind a unit that is still mortgaged. I find the rent figure to be pretty unbelievable, tbh. Anyhow check it out.

The Colonnade is a historic building and, yes , was the old Wills Eye Hospital pre-1980s. It, too, is close to the BSL subway....2 blocks away.
